Discussion: This cut was made in U21180 a wall collapse to create the foundation of F3656 and F3660. It was clearly recognized below U21172, but since that unit (an infill) and the fill of the cut were very similar (probably the same infill source) we did not recongize the cut until it cut into something different. In other words it might have been a deeper cut than now documented.

It is clear however that it is a contemporary cut for foundations for F3656 and F3660. In N part of U 21348 (foundation bricks for F3656) the cut did not follow - the wall was instead laid on an older wall (?). Even if it might have been cut in younger layers and not seen, it seems to be still a shallow cut in the underlying wall collapse (U21180) just to steady the bricks, which presumably was taken from wall in the collapse event u.21180. In that case the fill would be stratigraphically above the foundation bricks/mortar course.
The cut contained two courses of foundation bricks for the western wall F3656; however not for the southern one.
