Discussion: Removal of fill of cut 1546 to a layer of ashy, charcoal material, apparently defining its base. This extends beyond the possible cut at its eastern edge, previously excavated. The fill appears to represent several episodes of deposition, as various different lenses were observed, so it was decided that the southern half of the cut should be excavated by layer. The basal boundary at which the unit was finished, appeared to show several layers of deposition of varying materials, sloping down to the West. Each layer removed, peeled easily from the Northern boundary of the cut, but the layers were not visible in section.
