Category: Cluster dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: obsidian cluster
Data Category Information: Location: floors; Material: obsidian; Deposition: primary deposition
Dimensions: 0.07m (E-W), 0.08m (N-S), 0.03m deep
Description: A cluster of obsidian pieces including two obsidian tools - one largish flake and a large, crude end-scraper
Discussion: 4990 was a discrete deposit of a large obsidian flake and a large, crude end-scraper within the matrix of the floor deposits contained in unit 4987 in the 'dirty' south east corner of building 23/ space 178. They were not apparently held within a cut, and appear to have been dumped along with the other waste material that was within this layer.
