Name: Lucy Hawkes
Team: Çatal
Date: 5/5/1999
Entry: I began to take down the infill between wall 401 and the west wall of shrine 10. On excavation this turned out to be two fills, so 4351 was split into 4340 and 4321. The former was a lighter mixed more sandy fill which sloped downwards to the south an... click here for more...

Name: Lucy Hawkes
Team: Çatal
Date: 5/6/1999
Entry: It appears that the oven layers were sealed by a layer of plaster which could be floor, especially as the burnt layers lie one brick above the base of wall 401. The plaster then lips up onto the wall and forms a possible plastered niche. This oven canno... click here for more...

Name: Lucy Hawkes
Team: Çatal
Date: 5/8/1999
Entry: On excavating more of 4190 in what was space 160 I realised that wall 401 steps down so that the base is lower at the southern end. Fill 4321 had been cut into on the eastern side of wall 401 in order to insert the extra layer of brick and mortar at this... click here for more...

Team: Çatal
Date: 5/24/1999
Entry: Second day spent mindlessly removing infilling (4321) which is probably level VIII to level VII in space 159/173. No sign of floors yet and I will probably stop to clean up and record walls some time tomorrow as the western wall is in severe danger of col... click here for more...

Entry: Arrived on site and a large chunk of F.479 had fallen off during the night along the crack line which has been getting steadily wider for the last week. Thankfully we had stopped working there because it was dangerous, some of the lumps were as big as you... click here for more...

Name: Richard Turnbull
Team: Çatal
Date: 5/30/1999
Entry: Continuing to work in what is now Space 173. The original plan was to take down wall F.484 once I had taken the fill out of the crawlhole ( now F.487 ) but I decided against that this morning - partly because I wanted to wait until I could get photos of t... click here for more...

Name: Richard Turnbull
Team: Çatal
Date: 5/28/1999
Entry: Starting to get into some interesting archaeology again , working in the ‘ante-chamber’ of Building 6. Took off a small block of wall material, apparently collapse (4437) that was overlying the fill (4321) above the point where there is a crawl-hole throu... click here for more...

Name: Richard Turnbull
Team: Çatal
Date: 5/31/1999
Entry: Continuing to work in the north part of Space 173. Today realised (when Peter pointed out that the stuff he was taking off as (4441) was quite different to what I was excavating) that had started to excavate material that quite distinct from the backfill,... click here for more...
